The congestion index of the container transportation platform seaexplorer shows that as of October 20, more than 683 ships of major global carriers have berthed outside the port, setting the highest peak of global port congestion.
As disruptions in global logistics and supply chains are still widespread, global port congestion has now reached a new high—it has surpassed the port congestion during the most severe period of the epidemic’s impact on ports.
Currently, the east-west shipping price has soared by 1000%, and the price per 40-foot container was close to US$2,000 at the beginning of January 2020. By September 9 this year, the price had exceeded US$10,000, an increase of nearly five times.
